  3. Overview: The stable economy features moderate growth, low 
  4. inflation, and negligible unemployment. Agriculture is based 
  5. on small but highly productive family-owned farms. The industrial 
  6. sector, until recently dominated by steel, has become increasingly 
  7. more diversified, particularly toward high-technology firms. 
  8. During the past decade growth in the financial sector has 
  9. more than compensated for the decline in steel. Services, 
  10. especially banking, account for a growing proportion of 
  11. the economy. Luxembourg participates in an economic union 
  12. with Belgium on trade and most financial matters and is 
  13. also closely connected economically with the Netherlands.

  15. GDP: $6.3 billion, per capita $17,200; real growth rate 4% 
  16. (1989 est.).
